Tom Caycedo is a Michigan based sculptor and designer. He received a BFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2019, and an MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2023. Through world-building and object narratives, Tom focuses on dissecting meaning in monolithic symbols within spiritual contexts. With a personal ongoing investigation in a wide variety of ancient religious view points, Gnostic philosophy weighs most in influence while providing the lens of which he creates and views the world. By means of fabricating artifacts with intrinsic persona, Tom seeks to imbue ontological meaning through expressive image making, material contexts, ubiquitous symbols, formal references points, and play within the multiple iterations that objects may be presented as. He believes that the gradual unraveling of these manifestations allow the true identity of the work to come to the forefront.
